Paydays your customers can trust
Bankday computes pay dates and payroll submission deadlines from the payment systems' own calendars: the Federal Reserve for US direct deposit, Payments Canada for Canadian EFT. Your payroll calendar, your help center and the bank all agree.
Mistakes we keep finding
While building Bankday we read the holiday and payment-timing pages of dozens of companies in this space. These come up again and again:
- Listing Friday, July 3, 2026 as a bank holiday. The Fed was open: when a holiday falls on a Saturday, it doesn't close on Friday. The same thing happens on June 18, December 24 and December 31, 2027.
- Treating Black Friday or Good Friday as Fed holidays. ACH settles on both.
- Marking provincial holidays like Family Day or the Civic Holiday as Canadian banking holidays. Payments Canada stays open, while Boxing Day 2026 closes it on Monday, December 28.
- Copying last year's weekdays into this year's holiday article, so the dates and the days of the week don't match.
A year of paydays in one call
Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly or monthly. Paydays that land on a weekend or holiday move to the previous business day, and each one comes with the business day the payroll file is due:
curl "https://bankday.dev/v1/payroll/schedule?calendar=us-fed&frequency=semimonthly&days=15,last&year=2027" \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $BANKDAY_KEY"
{ "scheduled": "2027-02-15", "pay_date": "2027-02-12", "adjusted": true,
"reason": "Washington's Birthday (Presidents Day)", "submit_by": "2027-02-10" }
See the output for every common schedule on the 2027 payroll calendars (US and Canada), generated by the same engine.
