Minimum wage API

The minimum wage at any US address

Send a work address and a date. Get back every minimum wage that applies there (federal, state, county and city), the one that governs, the tipped cash wage, other rates for groups like youth or hotel workers, and the next scheduled change. Every number links to the official notice it came from.

Why a state table isn't enough

One call

curl "https://bankday.dev/v1/minimum-wage?address=600%204th%20Ave%2C%20Seattle%2C%20WA&date=2027-01-01" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $BANKDAY_KEY"

The response names the governing rate (minimum_wage, governing_jurisdiction), lists each level that applies under rates with its source and the date we checked it, and flags anything that depends on details you didn't send under may_apply. Full response.

Questions

How do you handle unincorporated areas and towns that opted out?

Addresses and coordinates resolve to a Census county and incorporated place, so a rate that covers only unincorporated county areas (Los Angeles County, King County and others) or a county ordinance that some towns opted out of (Cook County) applies only where it should.

What happens when a rate isn't announced yet?

Many cities set next year's amount in the fall from inflation figures. Until the amount is published, the API lists the change under pending_changes with its date, and the governing rate stays the current one. We add the amount as soon as the city or state publishes it.

How do you keep it right?

Every rate comes from the official notice or ordinance and carries its source URL. A script refetches each source and checks that the quoted sentence and the number are still there, with extra passes before January 1 and July 1, when most changes take effect.

Is this legal advice?

No. It's data with sources, so your team can check any figure in one click. Some ordinances have exceptions (training wages, certain nonprofits, some industries) that the response lists under other_rates or the coverage text.

Keep rates in your own system or publish them? The dataset licence delivers the same data as CSV and JSON. Questions? Write to the founder at ryanhalper@bankday.dev.
