Canadian payments settle through Payments Canada: Lynx for wires and ACSS for EFT, pre-authorized debits (PADs) and cheques. When the systems are closed, payroll deposits, PADs and transfers don't settle, so these are the holidays that matter for Canadian payment dates.

What doesn't close the systems

• Provincial holidays: Family Day, the August Civic Holiday, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day and Easter Monday are not closures. Payments settle normally even where offices are closed, so there's no need to run payroll early for them.
• Remembrance Day is the reverse case: it isn't a statutory holiday in Ontario or Quebec, but Lynx and ACSS are closed, so payments don't settle anywhere in Canada.

Weekend holidays move to a weekday

When a holiday falls on a weekend, the closure moves to the next business day. In 2026: Boxing Day falls on Saturday, December 26, so the closure moves to Monday, December 28.
